Use HeyMotion Graphics in CapCut

HeyMotion exports a standard MP4 (H.264 / AVC, VP9 fallback) video, so it drops straight into CapCut with no conversion. This guide covers importing your clip, placing it on the timeline, resizing and trimming it, and keying out the green on overlay templates.

#Overview

Every graphic you export is a self-contained MP4 (H.264 / AVC, VP9 fallback) file at 30. CapCut treats it like any other video clip. Full-frame graphics (a Big counter, a Chapter card) sit on their own layer or fill the screen; overlay templates render on solid green (#00FF00) and need a chroma key so only the graphic shows over your footage.

#Before You Begin

Export your graphic first — see Export an MP4. The file lands in your browser's Downloads folder named <template-id>-<timestamp>.mp4. For Shorts and Reels, export at 9:16 before importing; see Export for TikTok and Reels.

#Step-by-Step Instructions

#1. Import the MP4

In CapCut, open your project and click Import (desktop) or the + Add button (mobile). Browse to your Downloads folder and select the exported .mp4. It appears in your media pool.

#2. Place it on the timeline

Drag the clip from the media pool onto the timeline. Drop it on a track above your main footage so it layers on top. If it's a full-frame intro or end card, you can place it inline on the main track instead.

#3. Resize and position

Select the clip on the timeline. In the preview, drag the corner handles to scale it, or use the Scale and Position controls in the properties panel. Because the export is full-resolution (1920×1080 at 16:9), you can scale down without softening the image.

#4. Trim to length

Drag either edge of the clip to trim it. HeyMotion clips are short by design — most run a few seconds — so trim to the exact moment you want the graphic on screen.

#5. Key out green overlays

Overlay templates (Lower-third tag, Subscribe bar, Sticker slam, and the rest of the Overlays family) export on a solid green background because there is no transparent export yet.

1. Select the overlay clip on the timeline.
2. Open the Cutout or Chroma Key tool.
3. Use the color picker to select the green background.
4. Raise Intensity / Shadow until the green disappears and only the graphic remains.

#Export Recommendations

Export from HeyMotion in the aspect ratio you'll cut in — Google Chrome (desktop) is required for export. The resulting file is H.264, which CapCut reads natively; no re-encode is needed on the way in.

#Common Problems

• The graphic looks soft after scaling up — you scaled past 100%. Re-export at the target dimension instead.
• Green edges around a keyed overlay — increase the key's intensity/shadow, or shrink the overlay slightly so any fringe sits off-frame.
