Create a Quote Card
Put words on screen with weight — pull quotes, social posts, speech bubbles, definitions, hot takes, and sticky notes.
#Overview
Quote cards give a line of text the stage to itself. They're the go-to for pull quotes, reactions, and short statements that deserve a beat. Most live in the Story category. This guide covers six:
- Quote card — a classic pull quote with attribution.
- Social post card — styled like a social media post.
- Speech bubble — a line inside a chat-style bubble.
- Definition card — a term and its definition.
- Hot take — a bold opinion presented for effect.
- Sticky note — a casual note-paper look.
#When to Use It
Use Quote card for something someone said. Use Social post card to echo a post or comment. Use Speech bubble for conversational lines, Definition card to explain a term, Hot take for a strong opinion, and Sticky note for a light, informal aside.
#Before You Begin
You'll export an MP4, so use a Chromium browser — Google Chrome (desktop) is recommended. No account is required. Have your text — and any attribution — ready.
#Step-by-Step Instructions
- Open the studio at https://heymotion.io/app.
- Under Story, pick the card that fits: Quote card, Social post card, Speech bubble, Definition card, Hot take, or Sticky note.
- In the edit panel, type your text into the quote/body field and fill any attribution or label fields.
- Set Clip length (seconds) — give viewers time to read; longer quotes need longer clips.
- Press ↺ Replay to review, then click ⬇ Export MP4.

Clip length should scale with reading time. A one-line Hot take can be 3 seconds; a longer Quote card may need 5 or 6 so viewers can finish reading.
#Example
A testimonial: choose Quote card, paste the customer's line, add their name and role as the attribution, set the clip to 5 seconds, and export. Cut it in under narration that introduces the quote.
#Best Practices
Keep quotes tight — trim to the strongest sentence. Always match the clip length to reading time. Pick the card whose style fits the tone: Sticky note feels casual, Hot take feels bold.
#Common Mistakes
Overlong quotes are the usual problem — they either overflow the layout or need an uncomfortably long clip. Setting the clip too short so viewers can't finish reading is the other.
