Choose Your Brand Colors
Set seven color slots once and every template re-skins to match — including the accent 'hot color' that drives your highlights.
Colors are the heart of your brand kit. HeyMotion gives you 7 color slots, and every one of the 104 templates reads from them. Change a slot and the whole library re-skins live — you never edit a color inside a template.
#Overview
Each slot has a specific job across templates. Rather than picking colors per element, you fill these seven named roles once and let the engine map them everywhere:
- Background (canvas) — the base color behind your graphics.
- Cards (surface) — panels, cards, and raised blocks that sit on the background.
- Text (ink) — your main headline and body text color.
- Muted text (muted) — secondary text, captions, and de-emphasized labels.
- Accent — the "hot color." This is the one that drives highlights, emphasis, counters, and standout elements.
- Highlight (accent2) — a second emphasis color for accents that need to differ from the main accent.
- Borders (border) — dividers, outlines, and card edges.
#When to Use It
Set your colors before making a batch of graphics so everything you export matches. Adjust the accent whenever you want a different emphasis color to run through your highlights.
#Before You Begin
No account needed — colors save to your browser, and sync to the cloud when you're signed in. Have your brand hex codes handy if you have them.
#Step-by-Step Instructions
- Open the Brand panel with the 🎨 Brand toggle in the edit panel on the right.
- Find the color controls — one color picker per slot.
- Click a slot's picker and choose a color, or paste a hex value.
- Watch the preview re-skin after a short pause. Every template using that role updates.
- Repeat for each slot until the palette matches your brand.
#The Seven Color Slots
| Slot | Default hex | What it affects across templates |
|---|---|---|
| Background (canvas) | #F4F6EC | The base color behind every graphic |
| Cards (surface) | #FFFCF5 | Cards, panels, and raised surfaces |
| Text (ink) | #001832 | Primary headline and body text |
| Muted text (muted) | #3A4756 | Secondary text, captions, quiet labels |
| Accent (the hot color) | #E63946 | Highlights, emphasis, counters, standout elements |
| Highlight (accent2) | #F4AB11 | A second emphasis color |
| Borders (border) | #DCDFCF | Dividers, outlines, card edges |
#The Accent Is Your Hot Color
Of the seven, the accent slot does the most visible work. It's the color that pulls the eye — the highlight on a counter, the emphasis on a key word, the standout element in a stat. If you only tune one color to match your brand, tune the accent.
#Contrast and Accessibility
Because your text color (ink) sits on the background (canvas) and on cards (surface), keep enough contrast between them so text stays readable. A dark ink on a light canvas — like the navy-on-cream defaults — reads well. If you invert to a dark background, lighten your ink and muted colors to match. Check that your accent stands out against both the background and the cards, since it's used for the elements you most want people to notice.
#Reset
The Reset brand to defaults button in the Brand panel restores the original palette (canvas #F4F6EC, surface #FFFCF5, ink #001832, muted #3A4756, accent #E63946, accent2 #F4AB11, border #DCDFCF) at any time.
#A Note on Per-Graphic Overrides
Colors come only from these brand tokens. There is no per-template or per-graphic color override — every template re-skins from the brand, and there's no UI to recolor a single clip differently. If you need two looks, change the brand, export, then change it back. See Override a Brand Setting on One Graphic for the workaround.
#Best Practices
Fill all seven slots deliberately rather than leaving defaults you didn't mean to keep. Give the accent real contrast so highlights pop. Match ink to background for readable text.
#Common Mistakes
The frequent error is expecting to recolor one graphic on its own — that isn't available. The other is picking an accent that blends into the background, which flattens every highlight in the library.
